Prompt 2

Sky, the blue fairy, was hoping you and the fairies could share in her favorite game! Find a nice spot on the ground, spread out a blanket, lay on your backs, and look for shapes in the sky. You might want to bring some paper and markers along to draw what you find!

Be sure to take pictures and help mom and dad come back and write your story down so I can hear all about it. Or, you could take a video of you and the fairies gazing at the clouds! Who knows, the options are limitless when you use your imagination!!!

A Warm Welcome!

When the fairies arrived at Ivy's house, they could smell the Magnolia tree from their box.
"Oh, how delightful!" one said.
"I simply can't wait to explore our new home!" said another.
Queen Merrily took a minute to remind the fairies to greet Ivy when they saw her, and not get so excited about their new home that they would forget their manners.

That afternoon, Ivy dug through the box to remove her precious bag of fairies. She loosened the cord around it and the fairies tumbled out into her hand.

Queen Merrily led the fairies in their rehearsed greeting:
"Fairest Ivy, we are here
from the farthest corner of the land
for adventures in your fragrant tree
and magic in your hands!"

Surprised by the tinkling sound of their voices, Ivy quickly introduced herself and invited her tiny guests to follow her outside.

Once at the tree, the fairies flew into the branches, humming with excitement.
"Oh, this looks like a pleasant place for birds!" said the pink fairy.
"Look at all these leaves!" said the green.
"It smells so sweet!" remarked the yellow.
The blue was the last, and quietly exclaimed with awe, "Just look how high its branches reach!"

"Ladies, ladies" Queen Merrily interrupted, "I am glad you are so joyful upon arriving at our new home, but we must look to our host now to explain these new sights. I'll expect no fairy mischief, either! Dear Ivy, please introduce us to this, your Merry Magnolia."

Before she could open her mouth, her sister had climbed up into the tree and was grabbing at the fairies. She felt their wings fluttering in her hand and giggled wildly. "Autumn! Be careful with the fairies!" shouted Ivy. "Fairy?" asked Autumn. "FAIRY!!!" she yelled, waving her arms.

Queen Merrily flew down to Ivy to reassure her that no harm would come to them. "Don't you worry, Fairest Ivy, they will bring her joy! It is what they live for. Let Autumn welcome the dears, they are enjoying the excitement."

After Autumn tired of shaking the fairies, they all descended to the ground to where Ivy had carefully laid a blue silk fairy picnic blanket.

Ivy announced boldly, "Fairies! I understand you need names! I have prepared a feast of almonds for your naming ceremony, I hope they are tasty. Thank you for coming to share adventures with me, and may the world grow ever smaller and ever bigger as we explore it together.
"I will name you in order of the colors of the rainbow. First,
Pink Fairy, your new name shall be Bird, for you are the friend of birds. Secondly,
Yellow Fairy, you will be called Lemonade because of your sweet excitement. Thirdly,
lover of all things green, the Green Fairy will be called Leaf." Here, she paused, smiling.
"And lastly, quiet Blue Fairy, you shall be named Sky. Let us eat together!"

Satisfied with their namings and stuffed full with ceremonial almonds, the fairies retreated to the safety of their bag to fly and play another day. Thus went our first fairy adventure together.

Prompt 1

Queen Merrily and the fairies are so delighted to be with you and the beautiful magnolia tree! They want to celebrate their arrival and one other exciting thing. The little fairies just received their wings; and when fairies receive their wings they are given special names. These names tell you something special about who they are. What is special about your name? If you are not sure, ask your mommy and daddy. What do you think Queen Merrily's name tells us about her?!

Queen Merrily is overjoyed to be your friend and she was hoping you would do her the honor of hosting a fairy picnic under the magnolia tree to celebrate their new home and the fairies' new wings. There are so many fun things to think about! What will you wear to the picnic? Who will come? Will you use a picnic blanket? What type of food will you eat?...and more and more.

She needs you to do one more important thing. Queen Merrily needs you to give each of the fairies their special names at the picnic! Choosing the names is completely up to you. Make sure you look closely at each fairy and think about what she likes to do. Then choose a name that tells everyone about who she is.

A Very Special Package

Dear Ivy June,

Happy birthday my love!!!!! Nanny wishes she could have been there for your party; but we are celebrating in Georgia. Wait, if you are reading this you have received a very special package in the mail! Did Queen Merrily and her fairies make it safely to you?

I'm sure you have so many questions about your lovely fairies. I met Queen Merrily and her faires on my back porch one cool afternoon.

As we began talking she told me her fairies were searching for a special place to live. Our little back porch would not suffice for the adventures they dreamed of; but I remembered your beautiful magnolia tree.

As I began explaining how wonderful your tree was, their eyes began to sparkle. When I explained how you love to swing on your ladybug rope swing hanging in it, they all twirled in excitement. When I described how sweet the magnolia blossoms smell, Queen Merrily dreamily sighed, "Merry Magnolias!". And when I said you climb on its large branches, Queen Merrily darted into the air.

I called out to her, "Where are you going?". Then bubbling with excitement she said, "To Ivy and her magnolia tree!". I explained to Queen Merrily how far you live from me and I told her I could help her and her faires find you and the tree; and they were all delighted.

The fairy house you found in the box is to keep next to your bed. I hope this night light can always remind you of how wonderful your imagination is. Your night light started out as a teapot, but as I was working on it I accidentally poked a hole in it. A teapot with a hole is no good; so I had to re-imagine what it could be. After looking at the hole and making it a little larger, I decided to make it the door to a fairy house. I began busily working to turn it into a tree, add more windows in the knots of the wood, and transform the lid into an acorn top!

Imagination did not stop there. When Uncle Matt was looking at it he said, "What if it was a night light?!". We knew it could be amazing so we began thinking about how to add a light. Any ideas of where the light came from??? A Santa I found at Goodwill.

Once we put the light in I decided your present was still not complete. I was trying to imagine how I could make it more special. I decided to add furniture in the house and get you a book about fairies to go with it. I was able to find furniture but no book. But then my imagination led me to the best idea of all...we would create our own stories together!!!

You and your faires can play as much as you want, but sometimes Nanny will give you ideas about adventures your faires want to go on. I hope we can use this blog to write out all of the stories you and your fairies construct. Make sure to tell mom and dad all about your adventures, maybe even get them to join you and take pictures. Then, they can add your stories and pictures to my prompts.

I hope you are as excited as I am. I can't wait to hear all about your adventures.

I love you,

Nanny Bec

P.S. Introduce the fairies to everyone and the magnolia tree. Make sure you all get a good night's sleep and check back tomorrow for your first adventure idea!
